DSLR Practice

As you may know, I've recently acquired a gently used DSLR and I'm trying to learn how to use it. I attended a beginners class that I had a Groupon for (woo hoo!) and I actually learned a lot. I've been practicing, but I've noticed that my shooting has been limited because I didn't have a very wide aperture on my lens. That's when I learned photography lesson #1: In order to shoot blogworthy photos, you need a 50mm lens.

Fortunately, I had an anniversary coming up. We had decided to stick with paper-themed gifts, since the first anniversary is the paper anniversary. Dave had come up with some ideas, but he wasn't thrilled with any of them. So of course, he was absolutely psyched when I point blank asked him for a 50mm lens. He knew exactly what would make me happy, I got to further my shooting practice...everyone wins ~~except for the element of surprise~~!

I've been practicing with my new lens a lot, and I thought I'd show you some of my first attempts at using the wider aperture. This, of course, means that you just get to see a bunch of random pictures of Chelsea. You're welcome.

Vlog Friday: I'm Back!

Remember a long time ago when I did this series called Vlog Friday? Well, I miss it, so I've decided to return!

Today's topic: What's the worst haircut you've ever had? Describe it! Bonus points for pictures! Well, I hate to disappoint, but my story isn't that interesting. The good news is that somehow, my dog managed to pull apart our air vent...I don't know, because she somehow grew thumbs when we weren't looking?

This little mishap occurred while I was recording (ah, the beauty of live video). The result is a corgi blooper, which makes my haircut story more interesting. Maybe?

Beer at the Bark Park

This summer, Atlanta's Piedmont Park is hosting a weekly series of beer gardens. Patrons can purchase beer to benefit the Piedmont Park Conservatory, and they can enjoy their beer while playing in designated areas of the park. The schedule is as as follows:

Thursdays from 6PM-9PM at Dockside (the Visitor Center)

Fridays from 5PM-8:30PM at the Dog Park

Fridays and Saturdays from 5PM-7PM at the pool

Sundays from 5PM-8PM at Legacy Fountain

Of course, we had to check out the inaugural evening at the dog park!

The designated drinking area was under the bridge, which was smart...you'll see why in a moment...

Oh yeah, that's why. Incoming!

The sudden summer storm didn't hold back our little one. Corgi herding instincts - activate!

Then, Chelsea remembered that she was a spoiled little princess, and decided to find some dry land...in the form of snuggling with the bartender.

Craft beer, a good cause, and dogs led to a really fun evening...even in the rain! We'll be back, and I'm sure Chelsea's okay with it.

Now We Are Six

Our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Chelsea, celebrated her 6th birthday yesterday. Well, she didn't know she was celebrating. She just did her usual doggie thing all day, then got a doggie sundae at Bruster's. Still, I thought it would be fun to celebrate her birthday by following her around with a camera all day. Enjoy!

First, Chelsea helped her daddy open the door so she could go for her morning walk.

Breakfast was served after she returned from her walk. She drooled a little. I never said she was a lady.

After breakfast, she relaxed...

...briefly. Then she celebrated the fact that she had just eaten...the same food that she eats every day.

After a bit of frolicking, Chelsea jumped on the bed.

She stared at Dave until he began to pet her.

Pathetic.

Then, her ears perked up, as I announced that it was time to go get birthday ice cream!

Begging for food. We have ~~unfortunately enabled~~ strongly discouraged this habit for years.

The goods:

Chelsea didn't even care that she was about to get her very own sundae, as there were crumbs to be discovered.

Hmm, what's this? Could it be better than crumbs?

The cup was licked clean very quickly.

Aaaand then she proceeded to beg for my ice cream cone. Sigh.

Vlog Friday: Chelsea is a Movie Star!

I know, I know, it's not Friday. It's Saturday. Yes, I'm familiar with the order of the days of the week...Rebecca Black taught me that! Yesterday was a little crazy with the launch of Freeky Friday, but fear not; I plan to blog for Freeky Friday AND vlog every Friday! What can I say? I'm in love with both series!

Before we begin, I need to run through two disclaimers. Please ignore the fact that:

I refer to Disney's Tangled as "Rapunzel." I know it's called Tangled. But that is a silly name that the folks at Disney came up with to make it sound like it wasn't a princess movie. It is a princess movie, and there's nothing wrong with that. Accept that movie for what it is and love it unconditionally, Disney!
I am wearing a fuzzy robe in that first home movie. It was cold and I am from Florida.

Suit Up!

I feel like a lot of my posts lately have played up my domestic side (cooking, fashion, etc.), but I'm afraid I haven't followed through with my promise of nerdiness quite yet. Well, consider that promise fulfilled.
