I love lyrics that can apply to a variety of situations and lift you up. One of my favorite things to do with my cousins is quote movies - sometimes excessively. And of course, who doesn't have some fun sayings in their family? Narrowing it down to a quote for today's post was a no-brainer, though; I decided to use a quote in honor of a certain movie that comes out next week.

My favorite scene between Harry and Sirius takes place in the fifth movie (Yes, I'm just talking about movies here, folks. I love the books too, but the movies are exceptional works of art, as well!). For those of you who are unfamiliar with the series, Harry and his antagonist, Lord Voldemort, have an interesting connection. At this point in the series, this connection is becoming more significant, and Harry's dark past is beginning to catch up with him in the form of rage. Then, Sirius gives him some advice that I think really resonates with us all.
Harry: This connection between me and Voldemort... what if the reason for it is that I am becoming more like him? I just feel so angry, all the time. What if after everything that I've been through, something's gone wrong inside me? What if I'm becoming bad?
Sirius: I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person, who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are. When difficult things happen to us, it's easy to look at the world in black and white, light and dark. We've all had those moments of weakness where we lose our tempers with others, get frustrated with ourselves, or even feel hopeless in general. But those moments are not what define us, and I think that's an important thing to keep in mind when life gets you down. So thanks, J. K. Rowling, for writing something so positive and uplifting!
