I refused to let life interrupt our "Paradise Falls plans" any longer. We budgeted carefully, and I'm proud to say that we are officially and definitely going to Germany and Austria in April 2013!
So far, we've booked tickets to the opera in Vienna (obviously), and we've begun to research our route.

Such a tiny portion of such a breathtaking continent! It makes me lust after all of those other fabulous places that we won't have time for. In the other hand, we'll get to see a lot in our short, 11-day trip. We'll get to see things like this:

{via Sweet Nothings}

Holy Von Trapp family, Batman! Can we go now?!
Have any of you been to the Bavarian Alps before? Any must-sees or travel tips? And also, what are you looking forward to in the coming year?

I went to Munich as part of a Eurotrip in high school, and we took a half-day trip to Dachau which is pretty close. Definitely one of the most moving experiences of my life!
So exciting! I feel like I've posted some tips on your Pinterest board, but I second Jill with a side trip to Dachau. It's very eye-opening.
Also, in Salzburg, there's an opportunity to go to the Fortress castle and hear a concert of some easily recognized classics by a small string orchestra. On the shopping street, I can't remember the name now, there is a little tunnel/alleyway (across from a Pizza by the slice place) that has a little stand where they have awesome sausage that my vegetarian MIL gave up her ways for!
I recommend a side trip out of Salzburg to Hellbrun Castle where there are the dancing fountains and some locations (the gazebo) from the Sound of Music.
Nuremburg is also a good day trip, as is Rothenburg. Nuremburg is a special city because you can really see the dichotomy of pre-WW2 and post WW2 in one place. Rothenburg has the Crime and Punishment Museum, the most intact Medieval wall, the best walking tour of the town with The Night Watchman, and tons of Christmas stores! Whew. In Rothenburg, you might want to get there in the early afternoon, and stay the night so you can catch that tour. Also, skip the Schneeballen. It's an amalgamation of the baker's leftover scrap dough put together in a ball covered with powdered sugar. It's marketed all over town, but not really impressive.
At Neuschwanstein, I think you can skip the "little" yellow castle. Not that big of a deal.
Let me know if you have any questions!
I think it's so awesome you guys are finally taking your belated honeymoon!! I'm jealous ;)
Oh my goodness, Ayestria, you have been SO HELPFUL and I LOVE all of your Pinterest tips! Thanks again :)
This sounds amazing! Germany is on my busket list. I've never been, but my family had a few foreign exchange students from there when I was growing up. They always brought the best chocolate, so although I have no travel tips...if you like chocolate make sure to try it there. :)
